Summer Vibes

The school year officially ended this week. We picked up Hudson's Pre-K Portfolio and Journal. The yard is company-ready (even though, as we know, company will be limited this year), the neighbors had some socially-distant campfires with friends last night, my niece Harper turns 3 this week, I completed my first commissioned art piece (Calico CatArt, titled "Allie on Bucket Day), and it was 85 in my town yesterday.

Feelin' a lot like summer.

Yesterday, the first day of Memorial Day Weekend, we spent time visiting my parents, we relaxed outside by our little pool, we watched That Darn Cat as a family, we lounged in the sun, we checked on our baby birds (we lost a robin this week, but two of the five are still flourishing), and we really felt like summer was upon us.

Yes, our plans have changed. There's no trip to Disney World in 47 days, there's no looming possibility of visiting a small amusement park or a zoo, there may not be a trip to the lake in two weeks--but we are making the most of what we can access.

Two or three days ago we filled up a small pool to use for the summer, today we're doing a little yard maintenance and upkeep (maybe even a campfire? And s'mores?!), and I'm going to venture out, clad in Mickey Mouse mask, to Big Lots to pick up some more things for the yard, some other summertime games or décor, and maybe even some new porch furniture.

None of it is what we envisioned seven or eight ago when we started planning Summer 2020, but it's looking okay.

If we can go camping in a few weeks, we may. If we do get to visit the lake in two weeks, we'll travel. If come late-July or early-August things like the zoo and waterparks are opening and we feel comfortable venturing out, we'll go.

But for now, we'll hang out in our at-home oasis, maintain our social distance, stay cautious, and limit our contact to close family and friends. It's not what we pictured, but it's okay, we'll have fun, and summer is almost here!

See the positive, friends and followers! It's much easier than dwelling on the negative.
